BFRB Severity Scale


This self-rating scale is designed to assess the severity and type of symptoms in patients with BFRBs.

Answer each question based on the average occurrence of each item over the past week.

How high is my urge to do my BFRB?
How often do I feel the need to do my BFRB?
How well am I at resisting the urge to do my BFRB?
How often do I find myself doing my BFRB when I don't want to?
How much time do I spend doing my BFRB?
I feel anxious, guilty, ashamed by my BFRB.
I have caused some damage due to my BFRB.
I avoid activities because of my BFRB.
My BFRB affects my daily functioning. (work, home, with friends, etc)
How much power do I feel I have over my BFRB?
You either do not suffer with a BFRB or your symptoms are not present.
-- Mild – 8-15 ----- Your scores indicate that your BFRB symptoms are mild. It does not seem to interfere greatly with your daily functioning at the moment. However, using the self-directed BFRB course is recommended and can be beneficial in learning how to do treatment and to ensure it does not deteriorate further.

-- Moderate 16-23 ----- Your scores indicate that your BFRB symptoms are moderate. It appears that your BFRB behaviors are interfering in some areas of your daily functioning. Using the self-directed BFRB course is recommended and can be beneficial in learning how to do treatment for your BFRB to ensure it does not deteriorate further.

-- Severe – 24-31 ----- Your scores indicate that your BFRB symptoms are severe. It appears that they are interfering with your daily functioning across different contexts. Using the self-directed BFRB course is recommended and can be beneficial in learning how to do treatment for your BFRB and to ensure it does not deteriorate further.

-- Extreme – 32-40 ----- Your scores indicate that your BFRB symptoms are extremely severe. It appears to be impeding on your daily functioning and stopping you from engaging with activities or people around you. Using the self-directed BFRB course is recommended and can be beneficial in learning how to do treatment and to ensure it does not deteriorate further.
